Innosuisse supports the pioneering R&D activities between Bottmedical AG and University of Basel with CHF 0.4 millionRead more
The fruitful R&D collaboration between Bottmedical, the University of Basel, and the University Center for Dental Medicine Basel (UZB) continues: In-vitro tests will pave the way for the next generation NaturAligner® material system.
Combining teeth alignment with natural oral care: The team at Bottmedical currently incorporates natural ingredients into their certified NaturAligner® plant-based material system – to prevent plaque bacteria and biofilm development. Furthermore, Bottmedical foresees to personalize it with colors and taste. This innovation will improve the user experience by making aligners more comfortable and fresh for longer periods.
Commenting on their vision, Tino Töpper, CEO of Bottmedical, said: “Concise consumer behavior accompanied with the rising awareness of natural-based products are for us the driving motivation to innovate the field of dental clear aligner therapies. With Dr. Olivier Braissant at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Daniel Häussinger at the Department Chemie, and Prof. Michael Bornstein at the UZB, we found the perfect partners to finalize the in-vitro tests reaching for the highest benefit and quality standards for the patients”. Finally, Bottmedical leverages its European network and continues mechanical evaluation with Prof. Nadia Bahlouli at the ICUBE, University of Strasbourg.
Driven by inspired minds…

Bottmedical is proud to expand its board of directorsRead more
Thomas Bussmann, founder of Bussmann Orthondontie Labor in Luzern, and Ulrich Hoffmann, former UBS executive, with more than 30 years of expertise in Swiss dental industries and global financial services, respectively, have joined the board of directors at Bottmedical. Pascal Brenneisen, co-founder and life science entrepreneur, hands over his chairman mandate to Ulrich and will continue to accompany the team’s path as a board member.
Bekim Osmani, Tino Töpper initiated Bottmedical 2019 as a start-up from the University of Basel. Their entrepreneurial endeavors were supported by Christian Schneider, who has created a lively bridge between academic research and start-up ventures with an entrepreneurs’ club, design workshops, and international exchange events at the Innovation Office (University of Basel).
Through informal meetings at the entrepreneurs club and a joint trip to India as part of a Swissnex delegation, Ulrich Hoffmann met with Tino in February 2020 for the first time and got excited about Bottmedical. After a long-standing corporate career at UBS and various roles in global financial services, Ulrich has embarked upon new roles as a mentor of young entrepreneurs, supporting their innovative ventures as advisor and board member.
Thomas Bussmann led business activities at Bussmann Orthondontie for more than 40 years – the first provider to offer clear aligner therapy in Switzerland with Orthofolio®. Since 2020 Thomas has left the operational business and is now on the way to innovate the Clear Aligner therapy with Bottmedical.
Both Ulrich and Thomas will significantly lift the thrust and value to accelerate the scale-up implementation and commercialization efforts of Bottmedical. Its NaturAligner® material system and platform technology enables the world’s first plant-based clear aligner combining teeth alignment therapy with natural oral care in a health-conscious and sustainable way. The market entry in Switzerland is planned for this year, with a broader market expansion into Europe to follow as the next step.
